The community is invited to make recommendations for naming the new elementary school under construction off Stumptown Road in Huntersville. Community members can provide input through the Torrence Creek Elementary PTA website (click here to access the form), via Facebook and at drop-in events on Feb. 4 (8-10 a.m.) and Feb. 12 (4-6 p.m.) at the Northeast Learning Community (9425 Midas Springs Road in Huntersville). In addition, forms will be available at the Huntersville Town Hall, Torrence Creek Elementary and the Northeast Learning Community.
A school name advisory committee will be appointed by the principal to review, research and select three names to be presented to the superintendent. The recommendations will then be sent to the Board for a vote this spring. The 39-classroom elementary school, scheduled to open in August 2013, will relieve overcrowding at Torrence Creek Elementary. It was part of the 2007 bond referendum.
We look forward to seeing community suggestions and hope many will be interested in joining our Advisory Committee to come up with the final recommendations. Email Mr. Giovanelli if you are interested.
